General Questions
• What is included with the kayak rental?
You’ll get a kayak, a paddle, a life jacket (PFD), and a quick crash course in paddling — minus the actual crashing, we hope! Your safety is our top priority, and we ensure you have the gear and guidance you need.
• Do I need prior kayaking experience?
Nope! Whether you’re a pro paddler or someone who thinks 'port' is just a downtown neighbourhood, we’ve got you covered. Our team will give you all the basics before you hit the water, and we stay alert to ensure everyone’s safe.
• What should I wear for kayaking?
Think 'Toronto Island casual' — comfy, quick-drying clothes. Avoid heavy fabrics like denim. Water shoes or sandals work great. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun — and a change of clothes just in case you get wet!
• Can I bring my own equipment?
Absolutely! If you've got a favorite paddle or life jacket, bring it along. Just know the rental fee remains the same — we’ve got to keep the lights on!
Booking and Cancellation
• How do I book a kayak?
Easy! Head to our website, give us a call, or slide into our DMs. Walk-ins are cool, but spots fill up faster than a Toronto patio on the first warm day.
• What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before your booking for a full refund. Last-minute changes? We get it — the Gardiner can be a nightmare. Just give us a heads-up!
• Can I reschedule my booking?
Of course! You can reschedule up to 24 hours before your time slot, as long as there's availability. No extra fees — we're not your condo management!
Safety and Restrictions
• Is there an age limit for renting a kayak?
You need to be at least 12 years old, and if you're under 18, bring an adult who can take responsibility — no, your older sibling doesn't count!
• Do I need to know how to swim?
It's recommended, but not required. Life jackets are non-negotiable, though — think of it as the TTC fare of the lake. We also teach you basic water safety before you paddle out.
• What happens if the weather is bad?
If the sky looks more like DVP traffic on a Friday, we’ll reschedule or refund you. Light rain won’t stop us, but we monitor for high winds, thunderstorms, and unsafe conditions to ensure everyone stays safe.
• What safety precautions should I follow while kayaking?
◦ Always wear your life jacket (PFD) — no excuses!
◦ Stay in designated areas and steer clear of motorboats — they don't check blind
spots!
◦ Avoid alcohol or any substances — we promise, kayaking is a trip on its own!
◦ Stay visible. If you’re in a group, keep together.
◦ If you fall in, stay calm, stay with your kayak, and wave for help. Our team has
got your back and is trained in emergency response.
During Your Kayak Experience
• Can I bring my pet on the kayak?
Yes! If your dog can handle the Toronto waterfront crowds, they can handle a kayak. Just consider a pet PFD and make sure they’re comfortable on the water.
• Are there any storage options for my belongings?
Our kayaks have small waterproof compartments. If you’ve got valuables, maybe leave them at home — or risk your phone taking a dip in Lake Ontario!
• Can we fish from the kayaks?
Sure! Just make sure you’ve got the right fishing permits and don’t cast your line at passing swans — they have no chill.
Miscellaneous
• Do you offer guided kayak tours?
Not right now, but we know all the best routes. We’re happy to share some local secrets — no gatekeeping here!
• Can I rent multiple kayaks for a group event?
Definitely! Group events are a blast. Just let us know in advance so we can line up the fleet.
• What should I do in case of an emergency?
◦ Stay calm, stay with your kayak, and wave for help. Our team watches the area
closely — we're your Baywatch, minus The Rock. We’ll provide emergency
contacts during your safety briefing.
